Excel Is Not the Enemy
Spreadsheets are flexible and useful. The problem is the same seventeen spreadsheet operations, every day, by hand.
We do not attack spreadsheets. Keep Excel for the jobs Excel is good at. If somebody is manually performing the same seventeen spreadsheet operations every day, automate the repetitive work around it: the export, the column changes, the date fixes, the save-as and the import.
