Key-person dependency is a risk hiding in most farm offices. Here is how to turn it into a documented, repeatable process.

Sometimes the problem is not that a task takes 45 minutes. It is that only one person knows how to do it: which file to download, which columns to delete, which date to change, which warning to ignore and which filename to use.

Encode the repeatable parts

Software can encode the repeatable parts of that knowledge into a consistent process, so the job happens the same way every time and handover becomes easier. A useful system also records what ran, when, which file was processed, how many records, whether it succeeded and which version handled the task.
